ENVIREE Krakow Summer School 2017

Faculty of Mining Surveying and Environmental Engineering is the organizer and the host of the ENVIREE Krakow Summer School. The ENVIREE summer school takes place on the 26-28th April 2017.

The ENVIREE project aims at recovery of REE (Rare Earth Elements) from secondary sources such as tailings and mining waste.

The school aims to introduce and explain essential aspects of REE recovery from mining waste and tailings, along with the value chain, from secondary sources identification, sampling, chemical and mineralogical characterisation of secondary sources, beneficiation to leaching and separation processes. The summer school will deliver a holistic view of the recovery process with Life Cycle Assessment, and environmental impact as well as land reclamation of post treatment residues. The course will also give a picture of environmental impact of past mining activities and mine rehabilitation in South Africa.

The main target of this Summer School are MSc and PhD students but also industry, researchers, policy makers, environmental organizations, wanting to get familiar with recovery of Rare Earth Elements from secondary sources together with environmental impacts and reclamation techniques.
