It is with great pleasure that we share the news of yet another grant!

The National Science Centre has announced the ranking list for the MINIATURA 7 call. Among the five prize-winners representing AGH University of Krakow is PhD Eng. Paulina Lewińska, representing the Faculty of Geo-Data Science, Geodesy, and Environmental Engineering. PhD Lewińska will be conducting a scientific project entitled 'Application of short-range thermal imaging for monitoring ablation and calving of glacier fronts.'

During this study the author will determine if infrared images (IR) taken with a mid-range hand held camera allow to detect temperature change on the glacier terminus after a calving event and contribute to the better understanding of the calving mechanism.  The author will also analyze if it is possible to link temperature of the glacier terminus before and after the calving to the mechanical type of the calving, its size and its origin.

The awarded funding of PLN 26,400 will be used to finance a research at the Polish Polar Station Hornsund . Notably, out of the 238 applications evaluated in this competition, PhD Lewińska's application ranked 33rd. This was the highest rank among the five applications submitted and qualified for funding from AGH. The grant needs to be completed within 12 months.

Congratulations, and we wish you success in the implementation of your research project.
